The ladies are off and running! It seems we just finished the 2007 WSOP, and now everyone is thinking ahead to winning their seats in the 2008 series. The recent release of the 2008 WSOP schedule has put the idea in our heads that we need to start playing online, start home leagues, look for those free seats in pub and tavern tournaments and look everywhere fo opportunites. These are just a few of the offerings I have found that may help you win your way to the 2008 WSOP Ladies event:

1. The National League of Poker, www.nlop.com is a free site. This league is based on points. Free is a rare commodity but is a good tradeoff on this site. You can obtain points to play in the free tournaments by replying to sponsor surveys, logging into the site every day, and playing qualifiers. Again, no money is needed. A seat to the ladies event is just one of many prizes given away on this site. There's a definite need to check it out!

WSOP* Academy Ladies Only Camp to be Held

Jan 25-26 2008 in Las Vegas

The World Series of Poker Academy, poker's premiere
series of instructional camps where participants learn first-hand
from the world’s greatest poker players, announced today that it will
host a two-day Ladies Only Event at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas,
January 25-26, 2008.

The comprehensive poker camp and experience designed for women
players of all skill levels will feature world-class instruction by
WSOP bracelet winner Annie Duke, poker tells expert Joe Navarro,
noted poker instructor Alex "The Insider" Outhred and many others.

"From Annie Duke's success in tournaments over the past decade to
Annette Obrestad's historic win at the inaugural WSOP Europe, women
poker players have more than proven themselves as among the best in

Norwegian player Annette Obrestad became the youngest bracelet winner in World Series of Poker history early today by conquering the Main Event at the first annual WSOP Europe Presented by Betfair.com.

The 18-year-old online poker prodigy from Norway outlasted the strongest field in European poker history at the five-day £10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event in London’s Leicester Square.

"I never expected to win," said the composed and articulate Oberstad, who turns 19 in just one day. "I’m speechless. I really don’t know what to say."

"In the end, the Europeans dominated here," said WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. "This is the start of a new tradition for the World Series of Poker and the European and global poker communities."

Dirt Track Enthusiast Sandi Anderson Hits Paydirt in

Ladies Championship at WSOP* Circuit

I was just playing for the experience. I never dreamed I’d win it,” a dazed Sandi Anderson said after taking first place in the Ladies Championship Event of the Grand Casino Tunica Circuit. Along with the title, she won an official $13,674 and the tradional trophy pendant. It wasn’t easy, because by the second level Anderson had dropped down to 400 chips before climbing back.

The prize money was actually chopped evenly with Sherry Hollis when the two were about even in chips, and they then played for the pendant and title.

Anderson, from Jacksonville, Arkansas, is a billing/purchasing specialist for a construction/equipment company who also works at a dirt track weekends. Anderson, nicknamed “Red,” has two children and learned the game 20 years ago at local bar poker places. This was her first Circuit event, though she’s won a few other small local tournaments. Her hobby is dirt tack racing, both as a driver and spectator.
